PodCamp Began as a Conversation

The very first PodCamp was held in Boston in September 2006. It came out of a conversation between Chris Brogan and Christopher S. Penn, two early adopters of podcasting technology. They were inspired by the BarCamp model of technology and web ‘unconferences’, and they established PodCamp in the same light, with a focus on digital content.

UnConference

nounun·con·fer·ence/ˈənkänf(ə)rəns/

a loosely structured conference emphasizing the informal exchange of information and ideas between participants, rather than following a conventionally structured program of events.

From there, the concept spread around the world very quickly, with PodCamp Toronto being one of the first to spring out of the PodCamp Boston idea. Because PodCamp is a fluid, community driven event, many cities the world over have hosted their own. Yet, few cities have continued to host PodCamp as long as Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

PodCamp Toronto Began Just Months After

The first PodCamp Toronto was hosted in February 2007 at Ryerson University’s Rogers Communication Centre. The warm atmosphere of sharing and community proved strong enough to bring people together in Canada’s infamously chilly winters year after year.

Today, PodCamp Toronto is still running and still sparking conversations. Over the years our community has grown. We believe that once a PodCamper, always a PodCamper.

Orginizing Committee

PodCamp Toronto is organized by volunteers from the digital media world. We’re designers, communications professionals, entrepreneurs, community activists, and more. As you click through the years, you’ll see changes among the names and faces in the organizing committee. PodCamp is a community endeavour and, as such, our community members take turns spearheading the event each year. Still, we all remain connected.
